About Jacquee

Jacquee Kurdas

Hi, and welcome to my blog!

Originally from the Midwest, I have spent the past seven years seeking adventure and a place to call home in Seattle, Washington. During my time in the Pacific Northwest, I built a career in the nonprofit sector, working tirelessly to support numerous nonprofit organizations as a staff and board member. I launched Bloom Grant Consulting, a boutique consulting firm that specializes in helping nonprofits access funding through grants, to share my love of writing and expertise in grant writing with nonprofits in need. Since then, my one-woman show has grown into a team that has helped clients secure millions of dollars in funding for a wide range of programs and initiatives. I am incredibly proud of the business growth and fundraising impact that Bloom has accomplished as a fully remote company.

With an affinity for travel and nature, I also took advantage of Washington's incredible mountainscapes and quickly became an avid hiker and backpacker. When I was not behind a desk, you could find me exploring the natural surroundings of bustling cities, or being a weekend warrior on a backcountry trail. Some of my favorite places in the world are in Washington state, from the moss-covered forests and fern varieties, and the way the summer is ten times sweeter after the gloomy, rainy winters.

After pandemic lockdowns, my partner and I craved something new, and decided to take work on the road. We got rid of everything that we couldn't fit in our car for a six-month road trip across the States in December 2021. It was not always easy - living out of Airbnbs, ensuring internet connectivity, and having long driving days. But, it was truly incredible to experience the landscapes of the Southwest and swamps of the Florida panhandle, as well as the cities of Los Angeles, New Orleans and Denver. Needless to say, we thoroughly embraced our time freedom and location independence and did not want to stop. So, we signed up for a full year of travel through Remote Year, a company that organizes a yearlong itinerary, accommodations, workspaces and more for digital nomads.

Before departing in October of 2022, we sold our car, got rid of everything except for a few boxes and camping gear, and packed nearly everything we owned for our trip around the world. We boarded a flight to Hanoi, Vietnam, where we would begin our Remote Year.

On this website, I share my adventures, insights, and reflections on travel, culture, and life. Having had the privilege to travel before Remote Year, I am excited for the chance to learn from and connect with people from different backgrounds and perspectives for an entire year. Being a full-time digital nomad, working across time zones and cultures, will no doubt be challenging. But, I hope to inspire others to take the leap, travel to new places, and even find beauty where they are.

I hope you'll follow along my journey by subscribing to updates. Please feel free to contact me with any questions; I would love to hear from you.
